The wonderful art of being blown away
Today, I was lucky enough to go to a play. I had heard it was beautiful, but MY GOD, it was absolutely wonderful. I was truly thrilled and captivated by everything from the story to the acting and down to the lighting and music. Is it an exaggeration? Maybe, but I truly thought it was wonderful.
Thrill and Excitement
One of the key components of this play was none other than 'thrill'. In the midst of the play, I found myself completely immersed in the story, getting goosebumps often and watching intently as each scene took place, and continued to take my breath away. The play displays a paradoxical view of reality and how humans tend to play with the fair line between what we deem or wish for reality to be and the harsh truth while delivering many hidden and heartfelt messages. The story would leave you clues throughout the entire play but keep you starved for an answer. In the end, rather than having an ending, it had an exit; almost as if it kicked you into the air and left you there waiting to be pulled back down by the sense of a single and simple answer to glue it all together. But no... I think it was more like a brain tickle. Some food for the brain, if you will. It made me rethink the values I hold and reflect on my current issues. On the other hand, I'm still not quite sure what the message was and when I discussed it with my parents who watched it with me, we all had different takes and had focused on different sections of the plot and therefore had concluded a variety of perceptions. The whole thrist for another clue, another breadcrumb was exciting and it kept us, the audience on our tip toes. At last, they end the 2 hour long play with a certain yet uncertain, meaningful yet confusing, dramatic yet peaceful scene, making it the biggest thrill of the whole art production. So much so that everyone uncontrolably stood up to applaud the 4 theatrical actors who brought this story to life.
Immersion and Unity
To feel yourself completely immersed in something is rare these days, at least for a teenager like me who's (let's be honest) got the attention span of a goldfish and lives in the golden technology and AI days, it is genuinely hard to find something that unvolentarily takes up all my focus. Yet this play did, but I believe it is partly on me. Yes the craft was fabulous and it genuinely had so much depth that I could go on and on and on about it. But there were those in the crowd who checked their phones and I'm pretty not a lot of people almost fell off the balcony seats cause they were getting dangerously close to the edge while subconciously trying to close the gap between themselves and the stage. Oh the beautiful stage.
What I'm trying to say is no matter how incredibly stupid or cringe it is, be vulnerable enough to let yourself be carried away, into a new world, a new perspective.
*Song break* A WHOLE NEW WORLDDDDDD, A HUNDRED THOUSAND THINGS TO SEEEE
Anyway~
Lastly,
The Aftermath
As with the art of being vulnerable, be brave enought to face the after math. Don't be like those people who watch a mind-blowing play or experience a perspective change, but don't let it grow on them. Who don't let them take over their mind and aren't brave enough to take the leap of change and try to adjust their life perspective, if it's worth it of course, cause tbh, sometimes we're really fine and just a bit too dramatic (like me now... or anytime for that matter).
SIT THROUGH IT, let it take over your mind, play with your unshakeable values, and question your boundaries. It's uncomfortable but trust me, the wonderful art of letting yourself be blown away will come in handy. (even in sex -- jk I'm a virgin idk, but theoretically it seems pretty reasonable)
XOXO, Vi logging out :))
~~ Bon Voyage, Vi Voyage ~~
